Cómo tratar la Dermatitis Atópica en niños y bebés

What is the atopic dermatitis ?

Atopic dermatitis (or atopic eczema) is a skin condition that is hereditary and primarily affects children. It causes dry, red (or brown) itchy patches, especially on the inside crease of the elbows and knees. But you will also see it appear on the face or hands, feet, neck and upper chest. Babies can also get it on the scalp.

What causes atopic dermatitis outbreaks ?

Atopic skin tends to be dry, and does not produce enough protective fatty enzymes (ceramides) which damages its skin barrier and causes it to lose moisture and dry out. Parents can rest assured, it is one of the most common skin conditions that exist, it is not caused by something you have done, and we are here to help you treat and repair your children's (and yours) skin.

Atopic dermatitis treatment ( without steroids!)

If you think your child may have dermatitis, go to your doctor, be it your dermatologist or pediatrician, to provide you with an accurate diagnosis.

  1. Gently cleanse with Prebiotic Wash, our hypoallergenic shampoo and rinse that cares for and strengthens the skin's protective barrier.
  2. Keep skin hydrated with Vitamin E Boost, our cream with Vitamin E and antioxidants that soften, nourish and reinforce the skin's protective barrier to prevent breakouts. It also contains calendula and chamomile, extracts ideal for atopic skin that help reduce inflammation and repair cuts.
  3. Apply Pumpkin Cure ointment on existing chafing, it contains antiseptic ingredients effective against fungi that reduce inflammation, soothe and protect the skin, especially if the irritation occurs in the diaper area.

Maintenance routine and prevention tips :

  1. Prevent them from scratching, treat the itching with the recommended products.
  2. Make sure you bathe them immediately after playing sports.
  3. Regularly vacuum your room, ventilate and regularly clean sheets and pillows. The skin lacks the lipids that naturally protect it from dust, causing irritation.
  4. Try to wear cotton clothing as it is breathable.
